ResearchArk

Organizations

Browse and search research institutions, companies, and public bodies with filters for organization type, country, and focus areas.

The Organizations section in ArkSphere provides a searchable directory of research organizations accessible at /arksphere/organizations. It covers 16 organization types and supports filtering by country, focus area, and more.

The directory blends three sources of organization data: ResearchArk organization accounts (users who registered as an organization), EC Portal organizations imported from the European Commission Funding & Tenders Portal, and user-submitted organizations from individual researcher profiles.

Searching Organizations

The search bar supports full-text queries across organization name, short name (acronym), and city. Type any of these to find an organization directly.

Filters

Three filter groups help narrow results:

  • Organization type -- Select from 16 categories: Research Institution, Educational Institution, Non-Profit Organization, Public Sector Body, Micro/Small/Medium Enterprise (MSME), Startup, Large Enterprise, International Organization, and others.
  • Country / Location -- Multi-select country filter with autocomplete to find organizations in specific regions.
  • Focus areas -- Choose from 16 popular research fields including Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, Biotechnology, Renewable Energy, Cybersecurity, Quantum Computing, and others.

Sorting

Results can be sorted by:

Sort OptionDescription
RelevanceDefault. Ranks by match quality against your search query.
Recent activityOrganizations with the most recent updates appear first.
AlphabeticalA-Z ordering by organization name.

Organization Cards

Each organization in the results list appears as a card containing:

  • Logo and name -- The organization's logo alongside its full name.
  • Type and verified badge -- Organization category (e.g., Research Institution, Startup) with a verification indicator where applicable.
  • Location -- Country and city.
  • Size category -- An indicator of the organization's scale.
  • People count -- Number of researchers affiliated with this organization on the platform.
  • Description -- A brief summary of the organization's mission and activities.
  • Focus areas -- Up to three displayed tags, with a "+N more" indicator when additional areas exist.
  • Reputation score -- A score out of 5.0 reflecting the organization's activity and standing within the network.
  • Collaboration count -- The number of collaborative relationships the organization has with other entities on the platform.

Click any organization card to open its full profile page. For ResearchArk organization accounts, the card links directly to the organization's user profile. Cards for organizations with incomplete profiles display a notice indicating that profile information is still being filled in.

Use Cases

  • Partner search for proposals -- Filter by organization type and focus area to find partners with complementary expertise for your consortium. Cross-reference with the People Directory to identify key researchers at each institution. You can also navigate directly to an organization's affiliated researchers via /arksphere/people?organization=Organization%20Name.
  • Regional mapping -- Use the country filter to understand which organizations are active in a target region, useful for satisfying geographic diversity requirements in EU proposals.
  • Competitive landscape -- Sort by recent activity and filter by your research domain to see which organizations are most actively engaged in your field.
  • Due diligence -- Review an organization's reputation score, collaboration count, and affiliated researchers before committing to a partnership.
  • EC cross-reference -- Compare organizations here with entries in the EC Directory to verify their participation in European Commission-funded activities.
