ArkID
Persistent research identity platform providing ISO 27729-style identifiers for researchers, organizations, projects, ideas, products, and funding -- with verifiable credentials and relationship graphs.
ArkID is the research identity platform at arkid.researchark.eu. It assigns persistent, standards-based identifiers (ISO 27729 format) to six entity types -- researchers, organizations, ideas, projects, products, and funding -- and links them into a navigable relationship graph. ArkID uses Keycloak for authentication and maintains its own credential system separate from the main ResearchArk site.
ArkID Identifier Namespace
Every entity registered in ArkID receives a unique identifier with a type prefix that indicates what kind of entity it represents:
| Prefix | Entity Type | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ARKU | Users / Researchers | ARKU-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
| ARKO | Organizations | ARKO-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
| ARKI | Ideas (research concepts) | ARKI-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
| ARKP | Projects | ARKP-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
| ARKD | Products (papers, datasets, software) | ARKD-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
| ARKF | Funding (opportunities, grants) | ARKF-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX |
These identifiers are persistent and interoperable. Once assigned, an ArkID identifier permanently resolves to its entity, regardless of where the entity is referenced.
Dashboard
After signing in at arkid.researchark.eu, the dashboard is your central hub for managing your research identity. The overview page displays your verification status, ARKU identifier, and quick stat cards for your organizations, ideas, projects, and products. Quick actions let you edit your profile, view your public profile, review details, and manage affiliations.
From the dashboard sidebar you can access dedicated management pages:
- Personal Info (
/dashboard/profile) -- Edit your name, email, bio, website, ORCID, and profile picture. - System Info (
/dashboard/system) -- View read-only system data including your ARKU identifier, account timestamps, Keycloak ID, and schema version. - Organizations (
/dashboard/organizations) -- View and manage your organization affiliations with ARKO identifiers, roles, and external identifiers (ROR, Funder ID, PIC). - Ideas (
/dashboard/ideas) -- Create and manage research ideas (ARKI) with titles, descriptions, statuses, and keywords. - Projects (
/dashboard/projects) -- Track research projects (ARKP) with titles, descriptions, roles, and date ranges. - Products (
/dashboard/products) -- Register research outputs (ARKD) such as papers, datasets, and software, with DOI linking and project associations. - Funding (
/dashboard/funding) -- Record funding entities (ARKF) including grant names, types, programmes, funders, and your role.
Public Profiles
Every ArkID entity has a public profile accessible at arkid.researchark.eu/:arkid, where :arkid is the full identifier (e.g., ARKU-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). Public profiles display entity-specific content, a verification status badge, a QR code for quick sharing, and a share panel.
For projects and other entities with associated products, a Products tab provides paginated browsing of linked outputs.
Relationship Graph
Each public profile includes an interactive Relationship Graph tab powered by D3.js. The force-directed graph visualizes all connected entities -- researchers, organizations, projects, ideas, products, and funding -- with colour-coded nodes for each type. Click any node to navigate to that entity's profile. Controls include zoom, reset, re-centre, and SVG download. A legend identifies each entity type by colour.
ArkPub (Preprints)
ArkPub is the integrated preprint submission and discovery system within ArkID:
- Dashboard (
/arkpub/dashboard) -- Manage your product submissions with statistics broken down by type and status. - Submit (
/arkpub/submit) -- Submit new preprints with full metadata, project association, and contributor lists. - Search (
/arkpub/search) -- Search across published preprints in the ArkPub collection. - Browse (
/arkpub/preprints) -- View individual preprint pages at/arkpub/preprints/[arkd].
Authentication
ArkID uses Keycloak for JWT-based authentication with the following security measures:
- Secure HTTP-only cookies for session tokens
- Multi-factor authentication via email verification codes
- Automatic background token refresh
- Rate limiting at 100 requests per 15-minute window
ArkID credentials are separate from the main ResearchArk site. See Registration for instructions on creating your ArkID account.
