For Researchers
Research-focused dashboard with interactive topic exploration, sector analytics, veteran organizations, top university and research centre rankings, and topic evolution charts.
The Researchers page at /graph/researchers is a dashboard designed for academics and research professionals. Rather than a simple listing, it provides curated analytics and exploration tools focused on research topics, sector insights, and institutional performance across the CORDIS knowledge graph.
Topics Explorer
The primary component on the page is the Topics Explorer, which displays the top 80 research topics from the CORDIS knowledge graph. Topics are the thematic codes under which EU-funded projects are classified. The explorer presents these as an interactive, browsable interface where you can:
- See topic codes with their project counts and funding totals
- Click any topic to navigate to its detail page, which shows all projects classified under that topic
- Filter projects by topic directly by navigating to
/graph/projects?topic=[topicCode]
This is a practical starting point for understanding which research areas are most active and where funding is concentrated.
Research Sector Insights
Two sector insight cards provide a focused view of the institutional landscape for research:
Research Organizations -- Aggregate statistics for dedicated research centres and institutes, including national laboratories, academies of science, and independent research foundations. The card shows the total number of organizations, project participation count, and total funding received. A list of top organizations in the sector is included.
Academia and Universities -- The same aggregate view for higher education institutions. Covers universities and their research participation, total EU funding, and the leading institutions by project count.
Each sector card includes feature highlights describing the types of organizations and their typical participation patterns in EU-funded research.
Veteran Organizations
The Veteran Organizations component identifies institutions that have participated in projects across multiple framework programmes (FP7, Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe). These "cross-FP veterans" have sustained engagement with EU research funding over many years, making them strong indicators of institutional research capacity and reliable consortium partners.
The display shows up to 30 veteran organizations with their cross-programme participation history and funding totals.
Top Organizations by Sector
Two ranked tables present the leading institutions in each research sector:
- Top Universities -- The 15 highest-participating academic institutions, ranked by project count and total EU funding received. Each row links to the organization's detail page.
- Top Research Centres -- The 15 highest-participating research organizations, similarly ranked. Includes national labs, major research institutes, and independent foundations.
These tables provide a quick reference for identifying the most active institutional players in European research.
Top Topics by Framework Programme
This component breaks down the most popular research topics for each framework programme. It shows which thematic areas received the most projects under FP7, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe, helping you understand how research priorities have shifted across programme generations.
Topic Evolution Chart
A bump chart visualizes how the top 15 research topics have changed in ranking over time across framework programmes. Each topic is represented as a line, and its vertical position at each programme period shows its relative popularity. Lines that rise indicate growing research areas; lines that fall indicate declining focus.
This visualization is particularly useful for identifying emerging research trends and understanding which topics have sustained or lost momentum across programme transitions.
