Topics

EU CORDIS research topics — headline figures, popular and highest-funded topics, topic maps, top topics by framework programme, and how topic rankings change over time.

The Topics page at /graph/topics is the Topics tab of EU CORDIS. Topics are the scientific fields under which EU-funded projects are classified. The page shows which research areas are most active, where funding is concentrated, and how priorities have shifted between framework programmes. It replaces the former For Researchers page; the old /graph/researchers address opens this page.

Headline Figures

A row of figures summarises the topic taxonomy: total topics, top-level categories, the deepest taxonomy level, the most linked topic, average projects per topic, topics with projects, and how many projects are classified.

Two card grids list the topics with the most linked projects and the topics whose projects received the most EU funding. Each card opens the topic's detail page, which shows its projects, the organizations most active in it, and its parent and sub-topics.

Topic Maps

  • Topic treemap -- Every top-level field sized by its projects, so the largest research areas stand out at a glance.
  • Topic bubbles -- Topics plotted by projects and funding, to compare how much activity and money each attracts.
  • Cross-disciplinary bridges -- Topics that often appear together on the same projects.
  • Topics by framework programme -- A heat map of topic activity in each programme.

Top Topics by Framework Programme

This table breaks down the most popular topics for each framework programme, showing which thematic areas received the most projects under FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.

Topic Evolution Chart

A bump chart shows how the top 15 topics changed in ranking across framework programmes. Each topic is one line; its height at each programme shows its rank. Rising lines are growing research areas, falling lines declining ones.

Browsing All Topics

The Browse all topics link at the bottom of the page opens the topics list in Browse (EU), with search and sorting.
