Filters & Sorting

Refine ArkSearch results using six advanced filter groups covering funding type, eligibility, amount, timeline, requirements, and application details.

ArkSearch provides six groups of advanced filters that let you narrow results with precision. Filters work on the Browse page and can also be layered on top of search results.

Filter Groups

1. Funding Type & Scheme

Narrow by the structural characteristics of the funding opportunity:

  • Funding type -- The category of funding (grant, fellowship, prize, loan, etc.).
  • Scheme -- The specific programme scheme or instrument.
  • Organization name -- Filter by the name of the funding organization.
  • Organization role -- Filter by the organization's role (funder, coordinator, partner).

2. Eligibility

Focus on opportunities you are qualified to apply for:

  • Career level -- Target career stage (early-career, mid-career, senior, etc.).
  • Applicant type -- Whether the call targets individuals, consortia, SMEs, or specific institutional types.
  • Geographic eligibility -- Which countries or associated states are eligible to participate.
  • Discipline -- Research discipline or thematic area.

3. Funding Amount

Set financial boundaries:

  • Minimum amount -- Only show opportunities with at least this funding level.
  • Maximum amount -- Only show opportunities up to this funding level.
  • Currency -- Filter by the currency in which funding is denominated.
  • Number of awards -- Filter by the expected number of grants to be awarded.

4. Timeline & Duration

Control which opportunities appear based on dates and duration:

  • Funding duration -- Expected length of the funded project.
  • Always open -- Show only rolling calls with no fixed deadline.
  • Ending this week -- Show calls closing within the current week.
  • Show expired -- Include or exclude opportunities past their submission deadline.

5. Requirements

Filter by what the funder expects from applicants:

  • Open access -- Whether open-access publication is required.
  • Matching funds -- Whether the applicant must provide co-funding.
  • TRL range -- Technology Readiness Level minimum and maximum.
  • Required documents -- Specific documents that must be submitted (e.g., budget justification, letters of support).
  • Evaluation criteria -- The criteria used to assess applications.

6. Application Details

Filter by how applications are submitted:

  • Submission method -- The platform or method for submitting applications.
  • Language -- The language(s) in which applications must be written.
  • Keywords -- Funder-assigned keywords or tags on the opportunity.

Sorting Options

Independent of filters, you can sort results by:

Sort OptionDescription
RecentMost recently indexed opportunities first
Deadline (ascending)Nearest deadline first
Deadline (descending)Furthest deadline first
Funding amount (ascending)Lowest budget first
Funding amount (descending)Highest budget first
Alphabetical A-ZTitle in alphabetical order
Alphabetical Z-ATitle in reverse alphabetical order

Filters and search queries work together. A typical workflow:

  1. Run a semantic search -- Enter a natural-language query such as "machine learning for drug discovery" on the Search page.
  2. Apply eligibility filters -- Select your career level and geographic eligibility.
  3. Set a funding amount floor -- Filter for opportunities above your minimum viable budget.
  4. Exclude expired calls -- Toggle off expired opportunities to see only active calls.
  5. Sort by deadline -- Order the remaining results so the most urgent appear at the top.

To clear all filters and return to the unfiltered view, use the reset button at the top of the filter panel.
