Smart Alerts

Automated funding intelligence with seven alert types that monitor data continuously and deliver AI-generated summaries via email and push notifications.

Smart Alerts is ArkSearch's automated monitoring system. Instead of manually checking for updates across thousands of programmes, Smart Alerts continuously watches the funding landscape and delivers concise, actionable summaries to your inbox and push notifications.

Seven Alert Types

ArkSearch offers seven alert types, each targeting a different aspect of the research funding lifecycle:

How Alerts Work

All seven alert types follow the same pipeline:

  1. Schedule -- Each alert runs on a frequency you choose: daily, weekly, or monthly. Deadline Reminders are forced to daily frequency to ensure timely notifications.
  2. Fetch -- The alert queries the latest data from ArkSearch's indices, including funding opportunities, researcher profiles, and programme metadata.
  3. Evaluate -- Results are filtered and ranked against your configured criteria.
  4. Summarize -- An LLM reads the matched results and generates a plain-language summary highlighting what is new and why it matters to you.
  5. Record -- The run is recorded with its results, timestamps, and metadata for your review.
  6. Deliver -- The summary and supporting details are sent via email and in-app push notification.

Managing Alerts

Access alert management from the Smart Alerts section in the ArkSearch submenu (/arksearch/alerts).

Global Controls

Two global toggles control all alerts at once:

  • Enable/disable Smart Alerts -- Turn all alert processing on or off.
  • Enable/disable email notifications -- Control whether alert results are delivered by email in addition to in-app notifications.

The sidebar lets you filter your alerts by type. Each type shows a count of how many alerts you have configured for it.

Alert Cards

Each configured alert is displayed as a card showing:

  • Name -- The custom name you gave the alert.
  • Type badge -- A label indicating which of the seven alert types it is.
  • Frequency -- How often the alert runs (daily, weekly, or monthly).
  • Enable/disable toggle -- Pause or resume an individual alert without deleting it.
  • Email toggle -- Control email delivery for this specific alert.
  • Push toggle -- Control push notification delivery for this specific alert.
  • Last run date -- When the alert last executed.
  • Result count -- How many results the last run produced.
  • Refresh insights -- Manually trigger a new run outside the regular schedule.
  • Delete -- Permanently remove the alert.

Creating an Alert

The Create Alert flow uses a multi-step wizard:

  1. Step 1: Select alert type -- Choose from the seven alert types, displayed as visual cards with descriptions.
  2. Step 2+: Configure criteria -- Each alert type has its own configuration form (documented in the individual alert pages linked above).
  3. Final step: Set frequency -- Choose daily, weekly, or monthly. Deadline Reminders are automatically set to daily.

Alert Run Results

When you open the results of an alert run, the display adapts to the alert type:
